Naming the Ten Rivers — Siletz, Yaquina, Alsea, Luckiamute, Mary's, Long Tom, Willamette, Calapooia, and the North and South Santiam — draws the mind through what is, in essence, our local food shed. This coast-to-Cascades area offers the potential for a rich, varied and healthful diet for all citizens, if we focus on using our resources wisely.
